Founded in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi, Fendi began as a leather and fur boutique in Rome and is one of the most iconic luxury fashion houses in the world – from their classic bags to their vintage designer pieces, Fendi has become a favourite among fashion lovers around the globe. Notably for Fendi in 1965 Karl Lagerfeld joined the house as creative director and so began the conception of a new era for Fendi – one of innovation and high-fashion. Today Fendis creative direction is led by the legendary Kim Jones who was previously the creative director of Dior menswear.
In 1966, Lagerfeld designed the still iconic Fendi double F logo which is still recognisable and adored by many and is still just as classic today. This double F logo has been through many variations of prints and patterns throughout Fendis design history – these iterations all uphold the enduring class and sophistication of Fendi. It's also been said that Karl himself was able to design the logo in about 5 seconds!
For most the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Fendi is their ever-evolving Baguette bag design. Designed in 1997 by Silvia Fendi, daughter of the Fendi family, this handbag silhouette skyrocketed to icon status and helped solidify the brand as pioneers in the industry. Many A-listers have worn and elevated its icon status over the years including the likes of icons such as Madonna, Naomi Campbell, Matilda Djerf, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Amanda Seyfried, Emma Roberts, Paris Hilton and Rihanna.
Of course when talking about Fendi we can’t not mention Sarah Jessica Parker playing as the fashion-forward lifestyle writer Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City (SATC) and again in the series reprise ‘And Just Like That’ who has been seen toting Fendi for decades.
Recently in 2019 SJP channelled Carrie Bradshaw in an ad campaign for Fendi whilst rocking a stunning purple sequin Fendi baguette for the relaunch of the iconic Baguette line. She perfectly sums up how we all feel with the line “It's not a bag – it's a baguette”.
